The new EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is an important turning point in the global fight against deforestation produced under the auspices of the European Green Deal. The rule, approved in 2023, is a demand side measure aiming to reduce GHG emissions and biodiversity loss caused by EU-driven global deforestation and forest degradation. Its innovative approach to forest protection is expected to impact several States and produce transformations in different regimes as it intends to incentivize behavioral shift in countries of production and influence consumer countries to adopt similar forest protection policies EUDR definition.
